I'm assuming he will put down mill fabric and/or sand. Hey Dave I thought you used to use those yoga mat pieces that fit together like a puzzle piece?

I've used this system for 3 years and a handful of sand on the plates is all I use to protect the pumpkin. I usually have a very thin layer of sand over the whole board but this year I'm trying nothing. The PVC plastic is super smooth.

Put a piece of duct tape or some painter's tape over the joiner plate & screws to protect the pumpkin from the parts that stick up.
