            | NP | Pataskala,OH | If I understand this correctly watermelon are often grafted to Lagenaria gourd rootstocks. Well I have a giant pear gourd growing, which by the way will probably weigh more then my melon this year. lol I was thinking maybe a giant pear gourd rootstock would be a good idea next year. I have seen the giant pear gourd vine I have planted grow feet overnight. | 7/28/2012 5:47:42 PM |

            | Walking Man | formerly RGG | I was thinking about the same thing NP. Actually I was thinking of seeds from a giant bottle gourd. | 7/28/2012 9:27:18 PM |

            | removed_20180906 | Valencia Spain | what about gradfting onto long gourd is that possible | 7/29/2012 11:08:49 AM |

            | Walking Man | formerly RGG | I think it is possible westham. We need to find out which variety of gourd has the best root system for growing Carolina Cross. | 7/29/2012 1:09:22 PM |

            | NP | Pataskala,OH | I don't know if lg would be a suitable rootstock they are long but not very heavy, I was thinking a giant pear or bushel gourd because I would assume they have the best root systems since they have 100lb + fruits with leaves much larger then watermelon. Larger leaves loose a lot more moisture to evaporation so I would think they need to pull in more water. | 7/29/2012 1:24:22 PM |

            | NP | Pataskala,OH | *they would have to pull in more water faster also. | 7/29/2012 1:25:03 PM |

            | removed_20180906 | Valencia Spain | well the bottle that used the italian guy i think is calabaza pelegrino which they use for birds to nest and they are not giant bottle gourds
anyway long gourds dont germinate well

i think i will ask the nursery if they can graft giant watermelons for me and then will try grafted and no grafted with the same seeds

            | NP | Pataskala,OH | I will have seeds available from the Giant Pear Gourds as soon as I get them dried this fall. Email me at [email protected] if you want any. I have a third one growing so I should have a lot of seeds. | 8/11/2012 9:10:32 AM |
