            | Walking Man | formerly RGG | I have never had a stump go bad on one of my melon plants before. I can no longer say that. One of my 2 remaining 179's developed problems a couple of days ago. This morning I inspected the vine closely and discovered stump rot. The stump was just dripping with sap. Is this problem treatable if caught in time ? I think my other plants will be susceptible since I developed a problem on one plant. The affected plant has my only melon so far that looks like it may have been a keeper. What treatments would you recommend if any ? I will certainly not be watering close to my stumps anymore this year. | 6/2/2012 10:17:01 AM |

            | wv melonman | Watervalley Ms | Keep stumps dry, posibly remove leaves right around stump at least 6 inch's from stump this would be 1 foot across to get more air this will help. If you know it is going to rain and have acess to the stump cover it up to keep dry. If you have excess dirt on stump remove down to base of plant leave half inch of dirt to cover roots around base. I am not sure what is the best fungicide for stump rot maybe daconil, or captan. Hope this helps, Jerry | 6/2/2012 3:36:08 PM |

            | Walking Man | formerly RGG | The plant died and I replaced it with a 171. | 6/2/2012 4:33:30 PM |

            | big moon | Bethlehem CT | Pumpkin growers sometime will put a piece of plexiglass over the stump. To keep it dry. (Do a site search on foaming stumps.) I have never had a rotten stump with melons either, In Ag's it is not uncommon. It usually happens around a rain event. I am not sure if it is the same thing that happened to your melon though. | 6/3/2012 8:20:58 AM |

            | West of the Blue Ridge | Waynesboro, Virginia | I'm assuming this is one of the grafted plants.I had insect damage to one of my grafted plants stumps last year.Check close. After all, they are pumpkin stumps and must be treated as such. | 6/3/2012 9:19:55 AM |

            | Walking Man | formerly RGG | Yes it was a grafted plant as all of mine are this year. I have covered the stumps with glass and sprayed them good with fungicides. I may cry if I lose any more. lol | 6/12/2012 11:16:34 PM |

            | wv melonman | Watervalley Ms | Td i have noticed it may be better to remove the glass when there is no chance of rain, and you can cover at night to keep the dew from falling on it. The reason is it will hold moisture under the glass from evaporation or something. | 6/12/2012 11:34:28 PM |

            | Bohica (Tom) | Www.extremepumpkinstore.com | Dennis, if you keep losing stumps, it may be a disease issue. You might want to consider getting your soil tested for pathogens.Just my 2 cents.

            | Dave Bhaskaran | Rochester, MN | Tom, do you sell that fungicide? I don't remember that? thanks. | 6/16/2012 11:19:56 PM |

            | Bohica (Tom) | Www.extremepumpkinstore.com | Dave, I am working on it, but not yet. | 6/17/2012 12:03:45 AM |

            | Walking Man | formerly RGG | Dave, the active ingredient in Zerotol is hydrogen peroxide. It is a lot stronger than what you buy at the drugstore. You can purchase 40% hydrogen peroxide at a beauty supply store where it is called developer. I think a gallon is about $12 or $14. | 6/17/2012 12:22:09 AM |

            | Bubba Presley | Muddy Waters | Cool Dennis! I will call my beautician asap, maybe she can have a gallon waiting when I get my facial & manicure. | 6/17/2012 6:31:35 AM |

            | Walking Man | formerly RGG | Is that right Mark ? You have a beautician ? And I thought all that beauty radiating from your mug was natural. lol | 6/17/2012 7:33:08 AM |
