Could someone please explain the difference between raw mined gypsum and agricultural gypsum .An analysis of a sample of gypsum from a local gypsum mine came back as follows. Dry matter [98.140%] Calcium [221084.591 ppm] [K20 0.196%] Sulfur [48.805%] Conductivity mmhos [2.650]

Judging by the following analysis of agriculture grade gypsum there isn't much difference. I'd be more concerned with how this raw mined gypsum would spread. Was a sieve analysis done?

It is a mixture of powder and pelletized gypsum.Planning on spreading it sparingly on the surface by shovel.I read where gypsum doesn't effect PH,then i read that sulfur lowers ph.If agricultural gypsum contains approx 20% sulfur shouldn't it lower your ph level.

It's funny you mention raw gypsum Donkin. Just last week I went to the gypsum plant in Windsor. There is hundreds of tons of gypsum from chunks to dust in separate piles. Once I checked into it, it is more feasible for me to just purchase the bagged gypsum from the supplier in Kentville.

Andy,I can't find bagged agricultural gypsum any where in cape breton.Iknow this topic has been discussed many times and i am hoping to put this subject to rest soon.I just need to know 2 things. Will the sulfur in gypsum alter my ph and if so should i add lime with the gypsum to counteract this.
