Hmm. Matt D, leaning on your impressive research/knowledge my question would be, is there some way to know if the roots:foliage ratio is optimal? It does seem like excess foliage or insufficient roots, however you want to look at it, will harm fruit size. But I'm wondering how a grower could actually measure this, because we can't see the roots... So we never know what this ratio really is, other than some growers may have an innate sense for judging it.

big moon- Thanks at least I can grow nice plants;-)
Little Ketchup- No way to know the "ideal" since there are a few factors at play... pruning style, fruit set location on plant, leaf size/density,... However, based on general grower data it seems the 700-1200sq.ft. range is where many of the large pumpkins come from. Personally, I like the 1,200sq.ft. area the goal is to try and fill it with the youngest plant possible which is where the addition of CO2 comes into play;-)
