Alia, that doesn't look like aphid damage.

Per my Google AI search, butt not an all-encompassing result - Slugs and caterpillars were also mentioned; This was deemed to be Cucumber Beetle damage; On larger plants, like 5 X this one, I, myself would leave the SEED leaves (ha ha) as-is to allow the problem in that specific area, IF NOT starting chemical warfare on 'them' (let sleeping dogs lie, or you'll have to feed them, lol); I will actually let a leaf or two lay on the ground if already damaged to facilitate that 'they' have 'that' to munch on, not the other, lovely leaves.
These seedlings would like immediate attention to it as they are only just so big. Good luck and I hope you find a solution. It used to be Imidacloprid. I'm happier for the bees now, though. eg

That could just be some baby slugs or other nocturnal pest (earwigs?). Go out at about 11pm and see if there's some other clever culprit.

Solarizing the ground is very helpful for getting a clean start, or tillage might be helpful. Otherwise it may take vigilance and/or chemicals or patiently letting the plant outgrow the pests (hopefully). If everything else is favorable they can outgrow our west coast pests.

Thank you for that information. I'm being more vigilant than I was last year. Looking back at photos of both plants last year I'm pretty sure these first 'leaves' were decimated but I was unaware. I'll be less stressed once these are bigger. :) I'll try that solarizing method as well. Thanks again.
