The 2026 growing season is upon us in the southern areas of the US. I just checked the GPC website & the rules haven't been updated in a while, still dated 01/06/2024.
Does anyone know if weights on a NTEP certified scale at home are now accepted for all growers? The current rules, as written, seem to contradict this.

I can see how the rules are confusing. Perhaps the rule should be a publically accessible scale UNLESS the Gpc has good reason to give an exemption. My local store finally got new certification tags, thank goodness.

Fyi grocery stores don't want outside produce in their stores because of the issue of bugs. Which may seem silly but it's a big deal to the general public many of whom have never seen a bug on a piece of produce.
If you can assure the store manager that the produce is washed and clean (let them inspect it) this may help you become a "repeat offender" as far as using their scales goes. In their mind-- and for this reason-- they just dont want random garden produce coming into their stores. But other than that, they usually be happy to let their scale be used. Just my experience.
I think most people have been able to comply with the rules. Ultimately its whatever standard is good enough for guiness records??? I thought the issue last year was handled well enough but I agree that there will be more contention about this in the future.
