When is the best time to start a 150 square foot plant? I’m assuming that it is later than a full sized plant since there is less plant to grow out. What are your thoughts?

I originated the 150 sq ft contest back in 2013 and we started them at the same times as full size ones. Still takes the same number of days from germination to pollination. Nice to see the contest continues.

I'm thinking of starting mine roughly two weeks later(around May 5th), give soil a better chance to heat up naturally. Plenty of weigh offs to play with the timing. Plus can focus on getting my main plant off to a comfortable start. Keep in mind I've never successfully grew a 150sqft as I usually pull it and allow my main plant to fill the space. Does anyone mulch under their 150 plants?

10 years ago I did, I used haybale silage as a mulch (under the 150 plant and under the other plants as well). https://www.bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=262947

Not mulch but I grew on a 2" layer of perlite last year and loved it. Keeps weeds out very well. I grow this way again.
