At the risk of sounding like some kinda pro, you may consider getting a 100-pack of 8-inch plastic Zip Ties for flower closure. A little less tedious maybe and they can be sort-of reused for other things later. I dunno what. The resulting closure will be more secure versus very-intent bad pollinators and you'll come to know how tight is just right, lol. Also, cutting a 'V' into the leaf stalk hole will drain any rain/irrigation water. Looks great, that greenie! I can't wait to pollinate mine. Good Luck! eg

I actually did just that and used zip ties last night and this morning everything was perfect. Thanks for the help. The 1778 Jutras squash is next.
