We used to grow like that and get tips burnt the best prevention is put alight mulch over the soil wet it down and let the pumpkin grow over it. Your dark soil would be getting pretty hot in the hottest part of the day

When leaves get “burned†is it from heat or is it light intensity? My 2560 is getting fried under 40% netting.

I got hail netting 18%shade I'm sure I could use more shade but I have. Noticed leaf burn on cloudy days if you check uv rates are extreme or very high the clouds don't seem to block it here just something I see sometimes when you wouldn't expect it but Hot soil is the one to watch for here cooks the tips where leaves aren't big enough to shade soil

Hi dale, very interesting -I hadn't thought of that as a potential cause. That could definitely be what's happening

Put a thermometer atop your dark soil. It might be acting like asphault, despite the shade cloth. Also the heat might be releasing a lot of nitrogen/nutrients. Keeping nutrients on the low side tends to help during high heat. Just some guesses.
