For me, one of the most unforgettable moments was seeing Wendy’s 1670-pound pumpkin hit the scale — with her standing proudly behind it after such a challenging year. That image said it all: strength, resilience, and the payoff of hard work.
I also love the tradition of gathering everyone — family and friends — for photos behind the pumpkins. It’s more than just a weigh-off; it’s a celebration.
During our first year growing, and I’ll never forget watching Gene L pull in with his trailer — driving on a flat tire just to make it to the event. That kind of dedication taught me what pure determination really looks like.

That was an awesome moment! Wendy's pumpkin was huge and very impressive. I hope she has an even bigger one this year!

I was commenting favorably about a previous year's grower's techniques, quoting him at a Clarence, NY WPC weighoff in probably like 2005 or so, going on to say that once we are all caught up, stepping back and just admiring your AGs' growth is all that you can do at that point, and Ray Waterman was slowly clapping in agreement as I spoke. There could've been no greater honor. eric g

Howard

Nova Scotia

Many many memories but 3 older ones stand out: 1981 Howard's 493.5 WR, 1988 Nova Scotia had World's 3 biggest 627 Lanny Harbord, 616 Howard Dill and 575 Danny Dill. The 627 was sold to a buyer from Miami, 616 sold to a big farm market in Chicago. The 616 seed grew Gordon Tompson's 1989 WR 755 and the 575 seed grew Joel Holland's 1992 WR 827.Finally 1993 the first year of GPC competition, Donald Black from Winthrop, NY brought his amazing new WR 884 lbs. AG all the way to our Windsor weigh off! Don's pumpkin ended up being sold to a buyer from Los Angeles. All those pumpkins sold we crated up here and had transported by Air Freight. Great memories!

My favorite memory has to be meeting Jack LaRue and Joel Holland. Its like going to a baseball game and you get to meet the star players, the heroes of the sport, in person and even have them talk to you and encourage you. That doesnt happen at professional sports games... But it does happen in this sport. It was really cool.
