I have done some investigation into hydrogen sulfide that suggests that elemental sulfer is better fertilizer than sulfate, even though plants use sulfate, the biological transformation of sulfer into sulfate is very healthy for soil & plants:

This fits into the idea that oxidation/redox is more important than ph.

Its probably giving you an edge over other growers Russ. I don't understand all of it, especially how sulfer compounds could be volatile and get into the stomata, but in my experience it is true that the elemental sulfer gives an extra edge over the standard sulfate form.
